It’s officially the holiday season.
Though we sometimes forget that putting pen to paper is another form of communication in this modern age, the thank-you note is still one of the most appreciated parts of business etiquette. Though it seems so old fashioned to put an actual letter in the mailbox instead of shooting off an email, thank-you notes are still very popular and very appreciated in the business world, according to Jorie Scholnik, an assistant professor within Student Development Instruction at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Fla.
In a recent Office Hours chat, Jorie talked to Levo about the ins and outs of thank-you notes, as well as navigating the minefield of holiday gift-giving in the office. Both seem like simple tasks, but what merits a thank-you note? Should you always use “sincerely” or is that too formal for certain relationships? Should you buy your boss a holiday gift? And how much should you spend?
