When it comes to my appearance, I always prefer to skimp on effort if it doesn’t hurt my look. I’d wear workout clothes and a sloppy bun to work everyday if I didn’t know how important my professional appearance is to the respect I command. A quick and easy way to reduce the time of your morning routine and still look sharply professional is to utilize the updo. Updos generally look difficult and scary. But they don’t have to be — there are quite a few that are very simple. This week I’m sharing one of my new favorites — a twist on the French braid!
The French Braid Crown
About this hairstyle: This hairstyle is fantastic for keeping your hair off of your face. It works best with long or medium length hair – just experiment with where you start the braid.
This updo is most appropriate for a somewhat casual office, work team outing, or on a casual Friday. I wouldn’t wear this to an important meeting or a presentation for fear of distracting others with it’s sheer awesomeness and intricacy.
Step 1.
Flip your head upside down and your hair over like you are going to blow dry it. Gather a small section of hair in the bottom back corner of one side of your head – and use this to start your French braid! Leave the rest of your hair hanging free.

Step 2.
Continue French braiding your hair but only pick up and add new hair from one side: the outside.
Step 3.
Keep French braiding all around the crown of your head (note: closer to your forehead is more fun, farther is a little more professional, same with looser v. tighter style).
Step 4.

Use a bobby pin to secure your hair in the back once you’ve worked the braid the entire way around.
